CAF (Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles, S.A.) USA is building streetcars for cities in the United States. The cars are designated Urbos 3 vehicles and are being built in CAF USA's plant in Elmira, NY. They are similar in size and design to the United Streetcar, but are 100 percent low-floor design. The cars operate on 750 volt DC current. CAF has constructed cars for numerous cities around the world, many of them containing 5, 7 or 9 modules. KCSA selected the CAF Urbos 3 streetcar to provide service on the 2.2 mile loop.which runs from River Market West to Union Station. The service utilizes 4 cars. The unique aspect of the operation is that streetcar rides are free. As a result the streetcars provided 1.6 million trips in 2016.
